Abstract : The aim of this study is to shed light upon King Fahad Public Library project as an important development in the city of Jeddah. The project also aims to follow the evolution of the library. In addition, the study explains the need of the city of Jeddah to such a Public library that caters for the needs of the community. The study covers the structure of the library in terms of location , premises, units, and various functions.The researcher employed a case study program for gathering of all the necessary information to address all the questions.The study is divided into five parts. The first part deals with the framework of the study. The second part deals with modern trends in the fields of public libraries. In part three the researcher focused on the principles of the underlying foundation of King Fahad Library which clearly spells out the objectives of the library. In part four, the researcher tried to identify the services that the library can offer in relation to the acquisition and organization of the collection and services discussing the topic with the library administrators. The researcher concluded the study with the results which came up in the fifth part that talks about the lack of a public library in the city of Jeddah and lack of existing independent administration for public libraries. further more the researcher discussed the lack of coordination among public libraries in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Some of the important recommendation were suggested in the final part of the study : the importance of establishment of public library network and continuation of public library development. In addition, the necessity to set up the laws to govern these public libraries throughout the Kingdom.
