All praise is due to Allah; I praise Him, seek for His assistance and guidance and extol Him with all attributes of perfection. I invoke peace and blessing upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon members of his household and companions and all those who follow their guidance till the Day of Resurrection. To proceed, this thesis is based on editing of the manuscript of the work, ‘Mabaani Al-Akhbaar fi Sharh Ma‘aani al-Aathaar’, by the eminent scholar Badruddin Abi Muhammad Mahmud ibn Ahmad Al-‘Aini. The importance of this study manifests in the fact that Al-‘Aini’s work, upon which the thesis is based, is a commentary on another great work known as ‘Ma‘aani al-Aathaar’, which is one of the major Hadith references in which its author, Imam Abu Ja‘far At-Tahawi (d. 321 A.H.) compiled Hadiths relating to rules of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence). Hence, one of the most important aims of this study is to participate in spreading the books of Islamic heritage, especially the parts thereof relating to books of Sunnah and their commentaries. This is due to their importance in the life of Muslims. The student has used analytical method (descriptive) in the study part of the thesis by giving a brief introduction about the life of Imam At-Tahaawi and the method he followed in his work ‘Ma‘aani al-Aathaar’. A brief introduction about personal life of Imam Al-‘Aini was also given. The age in which he lived, the impact of that age on him, and the methodology he followed in his work, ‘Mabaani al-Akhbaar’, were equally discussed in brief. Concerning the editing part of the thesis, the standard scientific methodology in editing manuscripts was followed. In the course of this thesis, the student arrived at conclusions, most important of which are: Imam Al-‘Aini, as one of the leading scholars of his time, enriched the Islamic library with huge encyclopedias, especially in the sciences of Hadith and Fiqh. His work, ‘Mabaani al-Akhbaar’ is one of the encyclopedias of Hadith and Fiqh, in which he commented on Hadiths relating to rules of Fiqh that are compiled in ‘Ma‘aani al-Aathaar’ and recognized by scholars of the Four Schools of Fiqh. It is a copious and valuable commentary. Muslims direly need to be acquainted with Hadiths on rulings of Fiqh to enable them worship their Lord upon sure knowledge. Based on these conclusions, the student recommends that the remaining parts of Al-‘Aini’s work be edited by researchers in this field and that the same be published so that the work can be adequately benefited from. |
