The current study aimed to analyze the impact of economic growth on unemployment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the period from 1999 up to 2020, through studying the nature of the relationship between economic growth and unemployment, which contributes to taking suitable economic decisions and to identify the impact of economic reforms in accordance with the vision of 2030 by studying the reality of unemployment in the Saudi economy.
The researcher followed the descriptive statistical methodology and the econometrics method to estimate the relationship between the independent variables and the dependent variable, expressed by the logarithmic form of some variables in order to obtain the linear regression coefficients of the independent variables and the researcher used a set of statistical and standard methods. The study concluded a number of result which showed that there is a correlation between the independent variables: gross domestic product, the gross fixed capital formation, the government development expenditures and the rate of inflation with the dependent variable, which is the unemployment rate. And there is an inverse relationship between the economic growth rate (GDP), the total fixed capital formation, the developmental government expenditures and the unemployment rate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in line with economic theory. The study also concluded some recommendations, the most important of which were: to reconsidering the short-term employment contract programs that have spread in recent years in the private sector due to the limited returns of these programs, which are not in the direction of work stability. Good use of subsidies and funds allocated by the government to support human resources in order to allow the adoption and implementation of an suitable program for medium and long-term development to raise the levels of education services, health, housing and Social Care, to aim of improving the level of productivity, activating and adopting a real partnership policy with the Saudi private sector, as it is considered a major driver and a major partner in the economic development process. |
