Abstract : The study aims to determine the impact of the early bilingualism & its effect to the phonological awareness (PA) and the ability to process the Arabic sounds based on subcategories that are divided into three groups of common sounds. first, between the formal and the informal accents. Second between the formal, informal and English accents. Third, Sounds found in the formal accent only. The comparative descriptive approach used to compare between monolinguals and bilinguals (PA) awareness skills and to compare the effect of the sounds in the subcategories. The study included (119) children from both genders, from (5-6) years old, from public (monolingual) and private schools (bilingual), who were exposed to English for one hour daily at least. Measures of the study were used to control children IQ, linguistic ability & the PA skills tool used to measure (Identification & Deletion). No statistical differences were found between monolinguals and bilinguals in KG2 or KG3 on the phonologic skills or the sound groups. The study concluded that there is no effect of early bilingualism on the phonological awareness skills and that it doesn’t affect the ability to process the Arabic sounds based on subcategories. The study recommends increasing focus on the Arabic curriculum for kindergartens and to the phonological awareness skills. More longitude studies on the effects of early bilingualism on the language development should be done.
