This thesis deals with the present tense verb between both Arabic and English. It contrasts between its formal, meaning and functional aspects in both languages. At first, it studies the position of the verb among Parts of speech, its definition, classes and marks in both languages. Then the study discusses the formal aspect of the present tense in the two languages by studying its relation to unmarked and marked forms, its derivation, marks, augmenting to it, ending case, inflection and anomaly. It has revealed the formal similarities and differences of them. The thesis also studies the meaning aspect of the present tense verb in both languages regarding its morphological and contextual tenses, add to relation to gender, number and corroboration. It shows the similarities and differences of the verb in both languages. Then, it studies the functional aspect of the present tense verb in both languages regarding its syntactic position, independents and the relation between the form and function of the verb. It has shown the functional similarities and differences in both languages. As a conclusion, the study shows the most prominent results such as the similarities and differences of the two languages regarding the formal, meaning and functional aspects of the present. It reveals where these similarities and differences exist in both languages. Finally, the study recommended future studies to show in details the major similarities and differences between the two languages. |
